No personal data is collected when you use these tools anonymously. Geographic restrictions apply only to account creation and data sharing with education partners.

🔍 DATA BROKER STATUS DISCLOSURE

Admission Chance may be considered a "data broker" under the laws of certain U.S. states, including California (Civil Code § 1798.99.80), Texas, Vermont, and Oregon, because we collect personal information about individuals with whom we do not have a direct ongoing relationship and may share that information with third parties (partner universities, test preparation and tutoring providers, educational technology platforms, and scholarship organisations) for valuable consideration.

As of the Last Updated date of this policy, Admission Chance is NOT registered as a data broker in any state, and we do not allow residents of California, Texas, Vermont, Oregon, Connecticut, or any location outside the United States to create accounts. Consequently:

If you reside in California, Texas, Vermont, Oregon, Connecticut, or outside the United States, you cannot create an account, and no data will ever be collected, retained, or sold. You may still use our calculator and other public tools anonymously.

1. Who We Are

Admission Chance ("we," "us," or "our") is an online college admissions probability tool. Our website is located at admissionchance.com. Admission Chance is currently operated from the State of Ohio, USA. We comply with applicable US privacy laws, including Ohio data breach laws. Because we do not permit residents of California, Texas, Connecticut, Vermont, or Oregon to create accounts, the comprehensive privacy laws of those states (including the CCPA/CPRA) do not currently apply to our data processing activities.

Data Controller: Admission Chance (Ohio, USA). Upon relocation to the UK in late September 2026, the data controller will become Admission Chance (UK).

Geographic Restrictions: Admission Chance accounts are currently available only to residents of the United States, excluding residents of California, Texas, Connecticut, Vermont, and Oregon. If you reside outside the United States or in one of these restricted states, you are not permitted to create an account. We use the state of residence you provide during signup to verify eligibility. If you indicate that you reside in a restricted state or outside the US, you will be blocked from account creation. If we later discover that an account was created by a restricted state resident or non-US resident — including through misrepresentation of their state of residence — we will immediately and permanently delete the account and all associated personal data. The calculator and other public tools on Admission Chance remain freely available to all visitors regardless of location. Geographic restrictions apply only to account creation and data sharing.

2. Information We Collect

The information listed below is collected only when you create an account. Visitors who use our calculator without creating an account are not asked to provide any personal data.

When you create an account, we collect:

First name — to personalise your experience and, with your consent, to share with education partners as part of your academic profile. Legal basis: Contract (Article 6(1)(b)) for account use; Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for data sharing.
Age — collected solely to verify you are 16 or older and to comply with applicable privacy laws regarding minors. Your age is never shared with education partners. Legal basis: Legal Obligation (Article 6(1)(c)).
Email address — to identify your account and, with your consent, to share with education partners as part of your academic profile so they can contact you directly. Legal basis: Contract (Article 6(1)(b)) for account use; Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for data sharing.
Graduation year — collected solely for sharing with education partners, with your consent, as part of your academic profile. Legal basis: Consent (Article 6(1)(a)).
State of residence — to verify your eligibility for an account (restricted states and non-US residents are blocked), and with your consent, to share with education partners as part of your academic profile. Legal basis: Legal Obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) for eligibility determination; Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for data sharing.
GPA — collected solely for sharing with education partners, with your consent, as part of your academic profile including universities, test prep providers, and scholarship programmes. Legal basis: Consent (Article 6(1)(a)).
Intended major — collected solely for sharing with education partners, with your consent, as part of your academic profile. Legal basis: Consent (Article 6(1)(a)).
Password — to authenticate your account securely. Stored as a one-way cryptographic hash (bcrypt); we never store or see your raw password. This field is never shared with education partners. Legal basis: Contract (Article 6(1)(b)).
Consent records — to demonstrate compliance with data protection law. Timestamps and confirmations kept for 3 years per UK GDPR Article 7(1). This field is never shared with education partners. Legal basis: Legal Obligation (Article 6(1)(c)).

We also automatically collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and analytics purposes. Server logs are retained for up to 6 months and then deleted.

All academic information on Admission Chance is self-reported by users. We are not affiliated with any educational institution's records system and do not access, store, or transmit official education records governed by FERPA.

3. How We Use Your Information

To provide and improve our admission chance calculator — available to all visitors, with or without an account.
To provide your dashboard, where you can save schools, comparisons, and deadlines (account required).
To verify your eligibility for an account based on the state of residence you provide during signup (blocking restricted states and non-US residents).
To monitor accounts for geographic eligibility and delete any accounts we discover were created by residents of restricted states or non-US residents, including those created through misrepresentation.
To maintain server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and fraud prevention purposes. Server logs are retained for up to 6 months and then deleted.
To share your academic profile (first name, email, graduation year, state of residence, GPA, and intended major) with partner universities, test preparation and tutoring providers, educational technology platforms, and scholarship organisations only if you explicitly opt in (separate consent required via a post-signup screen with two equally prominent buttons) and only if you do NOT reside in California, Texas, Vermont, Oregon, Connecticut, or outside the United States.
We do not use student data for targeted advertising, to build advertising profiles, or for any purpose unrelated to educational outreach.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

While operating from Ohio, USA, we process personal data in accordance with applicable US privacy laws. Upon our planned relocation to the United Kingdom in late September 2026, we will process personal data under UK GDPR and will rely on the following legal bases:

Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): For data sharing with education partners and non-essential cookies.
Contract (Article 6(1)(b)): To provide the service you requested (saving favorites, comparisons, chance calculations), including verifying your geographic eligibility.
Legitimate Interests (Article 6(1)(f)): To improve our service, prevent fraud, maintain security, and enforce geographic restrictions.
Legal Obligation (Article 6(1)(c)): To comply with tax and data protection laws, including enforcing state-specific data broker regulations.

5. Lead Sharing With Education Partners (Data Sales)

If you consent to data sharing on our post-signup screen, we may provide the following information to verified education partners — including universities and colleges, test preparation and tutoring service providers, educational technology platforms, and scholarship organisations — whose criteria match your academic profile:

Admission Chance receives compensation from partner organisations when we share your profile. This compensation allows us to keep the calculator free for all users. You are not charged for this service, and the amount of compensation does not affect your admission chances or which partners receive your profile.

Important restrictions on data sales:

Consent is obtained via a separate post-signup screen with two equally prominent buttons ("Yes, share my profile" and "No, don't share my profile"). No checkbox is pre-selected; no default consent is applied.
You may withdraw this consent at any time by unchecking the "Opted In" checkbox at the bottom of your account dashboard, or by emailing [email protected].
All education partners are required to agree to data processing terms prohibiting resale of your data before receiving any leads.
Residents of California, Texas, Vermont, Oregon, Connecticut, or any location outside the United States are not permitted to create accounts. No data from these states or outside the US is ever collected, retained, or sold. Accounts from these locations are blocked at the point of creation based on the state of residence provided. If we later discover an account was created by a restricted state resident or non-US resident (including through misrepresentation), we will immediately and permanently delete the account and all associated data. These visitors may still use our calculator and public tools anonymously.

6. Your Privacy Rights (Including Deletion)

Yes, you have the right to delete your information. Regardless of where you live (provided you are eligible for an account), you have the following rights:

✅ Right to Delete — You can request deletion of your personal information and account. We will delete your data within 30 days.

✅ Right to Correct — You can request correction of inaccurate personal information.

✅ Right to Opt Out of Data Sales — If you reside in a state where we sell data (all eligible US states except CA, TX, VT, OR, CT), you can opt out. Residents of CA, TX, VT, OR, CT and non-US residents cannot create accounts and therefore have no data to opt out.

✅ Right to Withdraw Consent — You can withdraw your consent for data sharing at any time.

✅ Right to Non-Discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

To exercise any of these rights (including deletion), you can:

Use your account dashboard: Delete your account or opt out of data sharing by unchecking the "Opted In" checkbox at the bottom of your dashboard page.
Email us: Contact [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days (or 45 days for complex requests).

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA & UK GDPR)

Our account system is intended for users aged 16 and older. We collect age at the point of account creation to verify eligibility. Users who indicate they are under 16 will not be permitted to create an account. Visitors under 16 are welcome to use our calculator anonymously — no personal data is collected from these sessions, and calculator inputs are stored only in the visitor's browser (see Section 11). If we discover we have collected personal information from a user under 16, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has created an account should contact us at [email protected].

8. International Data Transfers

We currently operate from Ohio, USA, and do not permit users outside the United States to create accounts. If you indicate that you reside outside the United States during signup, you cannot create an account, and your data will not be collected. If we later discover an account was created by a non-US resident (including through misrepresentation), we will immediately delete the account and all associated data. Visitors outside the United States are welcome to use our calculator and other public tools anonymously without creating an account. Upon our planned relocation to the United Kingdom in late September 2026, your data will then be processed in the UK. For users outside the UK at that time, we will implement Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as the lawful basis for international data transfers under UK GDPR, replacing any prior consent-based transfer mechanism. Geographic restrictions may be updated at that time.

9. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (or request deletion), we will remove your personal data within 30 days. If we discover an account was created by a resident of a restricted state (California, Texas, Connecticut, Vermont, or Oregon) or outside the United States, we will immediately and permanently delete the account and all associated personal data. Consent records are retained for 3 years from the date of consent as required by UK GDPR Article 7(1), even after account deletion — however, retained consent records contain only the timestamp and consent status, and no other personal data. Anonymised aggregate data (with no identifiers) may be kept indefinitely for research and algorithm improvement purposes.

10. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including:

TLS 1.3 encryption for all data in transit
bcrypt password hashing (cost factor 12)
Regular security updates and monitoring
Access controls and principle of least privilege

Your data is stored with cloud infrastructure providers based in the United States. We will update this section with specific provider details upon UK relocation.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach involving personal information:

While operating from Ohio, USA: We will notify affected users within 45 days, as required by Ohio Revised Code § 1349.19.
Upon relocation to the United Kingdom: We will notify affected users within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, as required by UK GDPR Article 33.

In either jurisdiction, notifications will be sent to the email address associated with your account and will describe: the nature of the breach, the categories of data affected, the likely consequences, and the measures we have taken or will take to address it. Where notification to individual users is not feasible, we will post a prominent notice on our website.

11. Cookies, Local Storage & Analytics

We use the following types of cookies and browser storage:

Essential cookies (no consent required):
- csrf_token — Security token that protects your session from malicious requests. Deleted when you close your browser.
- session — Temporary identifier that keeps you logged in while you browse. Deleted when you close your browser.
- remember_token — Only set if you select "Remember Me" on login. Allows you to return without logging in again. Expires after approximately one year.
Functional local storage (no consent required): We store your calculator inputs (SAT/ACT scores, GPA, state of residence, extracurricular profile boosts, and the last university you viewed) in your browser's local storage. This applies whether or not you have an account, and allows your entries to persist across pages and return visits. This data remains entirely on your device — we do not transmit, collect, or access it. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.
Privacy-first analytics (no cookies): We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand overall site usage. This service does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, does not track individual users across sites, and does not create user profiles. It provides only anonymised, aggregate metrics like total page views. No consent is required.
Marketing or advertising cookies: None. We do not use any third-party advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, or social media cookies.

12. Your Rights Under UK GDPR (Effective Upon UK Relocation)

Upon our planned relocation to the United Kingdom in late September 2026, UK GDPR will apply to all users. At that time, you will have the following rights:

Right to Access (Subject Access Request): Obtain confirmation of whether we process your data and request a copy.
Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): Request deletion of your data (see Section 9).
Right to Restriction of Processing: Limit how we use your data while we verify its accuracy.
Right to Data Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
Right to Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw any consent you have given at any time.
Right to Lodge a Complaint: File a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

13. Do Not Sell My Personal Information

If you reside in a state where we sell data (all eligible US states except CA, TX, VT, OR, CT), you have the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information to education partners. To exercise this right:

If you reside in California, Texas, Vermont, Oregon, Connecticut, or outside the United States, you cannot create an account — we never collect, retain, or sell your data. You may still use our calculator and public tools anonymously.

14. FTC Endorsement Disclosure

Any testimonials, reviews, or endorsements displayed on Admission Chance reflect the genuine experiences of individual users. However, these results are not typical and do not guarantee similar outcomes for you.

If any user receives compensation (including free services, discounts, or other incentives) for providing a testimonial or endorsement, that fact will be clearly disclosed alongside the testimonial. We do not write or publish fake reviews. We do not suppress negative reviews or pay for positive reviews in a manner that distorts consumer perception.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Where changes materially affect how we use or share your personal data, we will obtain fresh consent from you before processing your data under the new terms.
